A Higher Calling
Dear Friends,
I’ve been pondering the peace of the South Bend conference. What a blessed time it was for our Awaken Team! The Nfluence Church did so much to prepare ahead of time to bless us so that the whole weekend was filled with peace. I hope you experienced that peace as you engaged with the workshops, speakers, attendees and vendors.
Michelle Howard begins and ends our conferences with a message for home educating moms that gets better each time I have heard it. She has been awakening and encouraging us to accept a massive realization of who we are, the role we play in the education of our children that is so beyond math facts and grammar and science class and book counts. She stated that, “Education is understanding the profound and bottomless things of God to shape and prepare us (and our students) for eternal purposes.” What a high calling! Charlotte Mason, in Ourselves, states:
“The chief part of education is to grow in the knowledge of God.” and “Education is a life.”
That life is sustained on ideas. Ideas are of spiritual origin…our business is to supply him with due abundance and variety and his to take what he needs.” Because, “…out of our ideas comes our conduct of life.” What perspective for our work at home!
How can we bless and help you, Home Educator?
This is the question I ask myself as I plan each conference. In the two areas where we have had a conference this year, we have laid a foundation, and now as we approach our Fourth Awaken Traverse City, I can sense that what we are building is a space for you to come to be made stronger in your understanding of yourself, your students, the method of Charlotte Mason, the absolute living vitality of ideas found in books, and the fellowship of others.
